Our first Youth Workshop

The Magician's Nephew, from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Two children are magically transported to the land of Narnia at the time of its creation by the Great Lion, Aslan. They inadvertently introduce the evil Queen Jardis into the land of Narnia. Against a background of the beauty and majesty of creation, the ageless story of the battle between good versus evil ensues!

How It works

For our Workshop Productions, students meet once per week for 10 weeks, for class/rehearsal time. They will choose either the SATURDAY MORNING CAST (9am - 11:15am) or the SUNDAY AFTERNOON CAST (1:30pm - 3:45pm). Both casts will have additional rehearsals the week of the show, including a technical rehearsal and a dress rehearsal for each cast.

Each registered child is assured a part in the cast. Each cast is LIMITED TO 22 CHILDREN, and it is filled on a "first come, first served" basis (so...REGISTER NOW!).

The first weekend, each cast will be taught from wonderful local theater artists (credits include Broadway, and National Tours). The children will learn voice exercises, movement, including animal work, and will have fun reading scenes out loud (scripts will be provided to each participant at the first rehearsal).

Within 24 hours after the first rehearsal, Mr. Dan Roche and all of the Staff will decide on roles. A cast list will be emailed to each student as well as listed on a special page on our website. To repeat: each participant is assured a role, but the roles will be determined after the first rehearsal.

For each of the remaining 9 weekends, students will meet weekly to rehearse and stage the play, participate in acting, movement and voice classes, learn special skills such as stilt walking or puppetry. They will also be involved in the stagecraft side of storytelling. When not rehearsing scenes or learning movement, students will help construct their costumes and build props.

The week of the show, students will gather for a tech rehearsal, they will carefully work through each moment of lighting changes, sound effects and special effects.. Each cast will then have an evening dress rehearsal.

Finally, the weekend of the show, each cast will perform two shows, undoubtedly to delighted, cheering audiences who affirm their hard work!
